CFP® - CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER

The Financial Planning Standards Council's Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP™) certification is the industry gold standard in financial planning. CFP professionals are the largest identifiable body of licensed financial planners in Canada.  In life, it’s important to find a financial planner you trust to provide sound, unbiased advice and professional services. Being CFP® certified means someone has voluntarily taken the extra steps needed to provide the highest possible standard of financial planning to those they serve. To become a Certified Financial Planner™ one must pass the comprehensive CFP® Certification Exam, have a minimum of three years’ professional experience in financial planning process and must be approved by the CFP Board, which involves an extensive background check – including an ethics, character and criminal check. To maintain certification, CFP® license holders must complete 25 hours of continuing education accepted by the CFP Board every year.

CIM® - Chartered Investment Manager

The Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) Designation builds the skills and experience we need to serve a more sophisticated financial client or institution. Financial professionals who hold the CIM designation are eligible for registration as a Portfolio Manager in Canada. They have expertise in providing money management services to high-net-worth and institutional clients, and they understand the application of portfolio management in the context of Canadian markets and regulatory requirements. A CIM identifies clients' objectives and constraints; develops appropriate investment policies and strategies, taking into consideration market and economic conditions; and evaluates investment products that represent both traditional and alternative asset classes; and implements policies and strategies through portfolio construction.

What does this designation mean for you? It means that when you work with an investment consultant who has taken the time to complete the CIM® designation, you’re working with someone who understands the financial complexities and risks that come with being in the highest tax bracket, is well-versed in modern concepts of investment advice, and perhaps, most important, is educated enough to understand how your individual investments are being managed and how they work together – no matter how complex it may be. These skills, along with a commitment to advanced education, enable them to provide you with the kind of service that you not only want, but deserve.

The most widely recognized financial planning designation in Canada and worldwide, the Certified Financial Planner® designation provides assurance to Canadians that the design of their financial future rests with a professional who will put their clients’ interests ahead of their own. CFP certification is considered the standard for the financial planning profession worldwide. CFP professionals have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, experience and ethics to examine their clients’ entire financial picture, at the highest level of complexity required of the profession, and work with their clients to build a financial plan so that they can Live Life Confidently.
